Why Climate Activism Lab?

This is a space to learn, explore, engage and act. No white coats or safety goggles to wear, just a space to rise up and meet the challenges of our times. We will share success stories, resources, ideas and a bit of fun while connecting in a variety of ways.

...we are only just beginning.

Climate Activism Lab

Meet The Founder:

Jill MacIntyre Witt

My name is Jill and I’m an activist, university professor, and now wellness coach being called to use my skills to scale my efforts to match the scale of the climate crisis.

Jill and Anita RoddickWith COVID-19 colliding into the climate crisis, the anxiety and stress I have both experienced and witnessed in my students has led me to want to help others with dealing with these crises by combining activism and wellness as these challenging times are calling for us to create a new path forward. And oh my goodness, at the end of 2019, I landed on the United Nations TOP 100 Human Rights Defender list with Michelle Obama, Malala Yousazfai, Greta Thunberg and others. This pushes me to elevate my efforts and so here we are: Climate Activism Lab – a place to “get informed, get outraged, get inspired, get active“ as my dear friend, late Dame Anita Roddick professed as necessary ingredients for activism.

Why climate activism?
How did this all start?

Al Gore & Jill MacIntyre Witt

In 2006, I saw An Inconvenient Truth and at the end of the film, Vice President Al Gore said that our children 20 years from now will be asking us, “What were you thinking,” and, “Why didn’t you do anything when you had the chance?” In that moment, I had never cried so hard in my entire life because I didn’t want my 2 daughters asking me those questions! I finally walked out of the theater and said that everyone needed to know what climate change was about. I became a certified Climate Reality Leader with Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project in 2012 and have since given over 200 climate presentations, organized to stop North America’s largest coal export terminal from being built in our community, and have taught over 1,500 students about climate justice at Western Washington University.

What can I do?

Climate Justice Field ManualThis is the most common question people ask after learning about climate change. Knowing that we need to push governments to take bolder action on climate change I wrote the Climate Justice Field Manual to help people organize in their communities. The manual has been downloaded hundreds of times all around the world and can be found at climatejusticenow.earth. I have since received training at the Mayo Clinic to become a wellness coach because I recognize the importance of balancing wellness and activism because this is for the rest of our lives. We don’t get the choice to burn out, yet we do get to choose how we care for ourselves, each other, and the planet.
